Len Millison had been a teacher at Schutz and was a member of the SASAF board from 2001 until his unexpected death in 2007. Ron and Janie Walters attended his funeral in Key West Florida. The SASAF board has placed a brick in his memory at the New Wilmington Memorial Brick
Garden.
The following is an excerpt from his church's bulletin.
Beloved friend and pastor, Rev Leonard E Millison, of Peace Covenant Presbyterian
Church in Key West, Florida, died suddenly on Friday, March 9, 2007. Len was born
June 8, 1946, in Punxsutawney, PA, to the Rev Henry and Betty Millison. After graduation
from Tarkio College in Missouri in 1968, Len taught at the Schutz American School
in Alexandria, Egypt, for three years. He earned his master of divinity from Pittsburgh
Theological Seminary in 1975, and then returned to Schutz from 1977-1981 as an administrator,
teacher and houseparent. Len accepted his current position in June 1998, after serving
nine years at Hillcrest and eight years at Mulberry Presbyterian churches in the
Pittsburgh area.
Len loved reading a book while on a rural retreat or a day spent
fishing aboard his “QE III”. He was also an avid traveler. His many travels for
mission, study or pleasure included Israel, Egypt, Kenya, India, Thailand, Turkey
and Australia. He recently returned from France, where he traveled on the Loire
River lateral canal, and visited Normandy and Provence. Len was an active member
of the Presbytery of Tropical Florida. He was on the board of the Florida Keys Outreach
Coalition, moderator of the Interfaith Council, a member of the Southernmost Homeless
Assistance League, a supporter of Habitat for Humanity and other organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Len is survived by his stepmother, Sally
Millison; dear friend, Wilma Garrison; an aunt; uncles; many cousins; church family
and countless friends. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 17, 2007,
at Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Donations may be made to Peace Covenant Presbyterian
Church and designated to the Len Millison Outreach Fund.
